Like many of you, I feel helpless watching the coverage around Flint, Michigan and their pleas for clean water. Pleas for clean water – not exactly a phrase you’d expect to utter when speaking about somewhere in the United States.
Access to clean water is a basic human need. It nourishes the mind and body – especially the body’s largest organ, skin. For 10 years I’ve written about the immediate benefits of water on your skin in particular – it plumps! It restores! It minimizes fine lines and wrinkles! But beyond what it can do for your complexion, it’s essential for life.
Which is why it’s hard to understand why the response to water contamination in Flint hasn’t been swifter. People are falling ill from lead poisoning and other ailments due to the crisis, while the powers that be figure out next steps.
I know that a long-term solution will come from the top, but I applaud brands that are doing what they can to help now like Anheuser-Busch, who is sending drinkable water to Flint and Juice Served Here who is collaborating with Soma Water to create a unique beverage that provides support to the clean water projects in Flint.
For the latter partnership, one dollar from every bottle of their Rose Water, a drink containing alkalizing water that can reduce inflammation and alleviate anxiety, sold is donated to Community Foundation Greater Flint.
