Several years ago I joined The Body Shop for a trip to Big Cat Rescue in Florida. A group of us shuffled around the sanctuary, home to abused and abandoned big cats, learning how they’d landed in the rescue after being domesticated or saved from slaughter. The immediate mission of the org was to save these creatures, but their long-term goal focused on ending the private possession and trade in exotic cats through legislation. The Body Shop, staunch supporters of animal rights, had created a limited edition lip balm to support their efforts.
The brand has continued its commitment to our furry friends through partnerships with Born Free USA and Cruelty Free International. And as of June 1st, The Body Shop is making a bold – and necessary – move, calling for the end of worldwide animal testing that shockingly still exists in the beauty industry today.
Through the campaign, dubbed #ForeverAgainstAnimalTesting, the cruelty-free beauty brand is circulating a petition asking for 8 million signatures to present before the United Nations to request an international convention that bans animal testing globally.
As someone who stops to pet every dog, cat, and even iguana who looks at me right way, I’ve already signed the petition and will be doing my part to give these innocent souls a voice. Please help put an end to this savage practice by signing the petition, and getting your friends to join up by using #ForeverAgainstAnimalTesting and @TheBodyShop.
